brief

An overall theme is a dream dictionary and interpretation of dreams. Select (research) three dreams and represent them through portraits. A single photograph is going to present a single dream while in the overall context you have to have a unified series with a clear style (mood board and research). It is required to illustrate the concept of dream and interpret its meaning. Research symbols that are connected to your choices of dreams, and connect them with the narrative. Think about how to unify the series.

For this project I decided to go with three different dreams but all related to possible nightmares. Double visual layer is requirement of the project so to present the dream and symbolism of the dream in reality I decided to use black and white color. Black color presents the reality, while white color presents the dream. So every time the white color appears it is referring to the action happening in the dream and vise versa with black color.

    • RAW MATERIALS

    For each of the dream I looked through the dream symbolism and tried to present that part as well visually. For example, being choked in the dream means you have difficulties with dealing with certain emotions in real life. Suppressing your emotions. So I used black hands (happening in the dream) of the person choking herself wearing the white bandage (reality) which means that in reality person in not aware that she is choking herself. Her own emotions are choking her. Each of the photographs are using this same procedure of combining the visual part of the dream and it’s symbolism in real life. I tired to unify the series using only black and white elements, as well using the posture and body motion to tell the story.
